ADDICTION

I have a confession.

I am addicted to my Iphone and this has caused me to be a terrible, terrible mother.

Yes, the Iphone is a blessing for work purposes because I can reply to emails very promptly....If Nyla wants to know how a wombat looks like, all I have to do is to click on 'Safari' and google about it...When she's bored, I can log on to 'You Tube' and let her watch her favourite videos.

However, in my personal opinion, Iphone can also be a curse.

Previously...

The moment I wake up, I'd kiss Nyla....

Now..
I'll check my email.

Previously during bedtime,
I'd read her books of her choice at a slow pace.

Now..
I'd rush through the reading aloud so that I can catch up on the tweets. *SHAKES HEAD*

Previously during our long trip to school,
Nyla and I would chit chat in the bus/MRT about everything under the sun.

Now..
I'd be hooked on the phone replying emails...replying to my friends' facebook statuses....replying to tweets laughing myself silly and the poor girl will be just sitting beside me staring blankly at the blank faces of the other passengers/commuters. *THIS IS SAD SIA*
Or if she wants to watch videos on You Tube, I'd impose a time limit because I dont want my battery life to be empty. *TSK TSK*

The list goes on.

I know it's always good to start on Mondays but it's now or never man.
In fact I started last night actually, thanks to an absolutely silly and unnecessary mini drama over at Twitter.
Funny how one needs to be mindful of whatever we tweet because even if your tweet is generic (not aimed at anyone in Twitterverse) you'll tend to ruffle up a few feathers.
Leceh abis, I know.

For the record, that tweet was not meant for you, Kak.
You feel that you are a better person, more street wise, etc so be it.
Each is entitled to own opinions.
I just want to clarify that I have no malicious intent in my tweet especially to you.

However, I would have to agree with you wholeheartedly about my lack of talent in the acting department man.

I CANNOT BLARDY ACT.
HAVE YOU ALL WATCHED SOLDADU 2?
MAN, THAT WAS JUST PAINFULLY EEEEWWWW LOR. EEYYYER.
ME SO PARANGPERAPUKEPALAJOKITONGBEDENGBEDENGDENGNGOKOKYETISONG or what?!
EVEN I AM ASHAMED AT MYSELF.
PRODUCERS/DIRECTORS ALSO SCARED TO TAKE THE RISK OF HAVING ME BECAUSE I SURE MAKE THEM PAISEH ONE.

Sad...But very very true.
So for that, I cannot be angry because that is the nothing but the absolute truth.

That's why I focus on my strengths instead. God is fair. You have at least a WOW factor in you.
And my WOW factor here is my passion in teaching children of lower ability.

Again, for the record, I have nothing against you and I'll still respect you as a fellow senior.

Yesterday was a WHOLE lot of time wasting which I have not done in a while.
Such an unaccomplished day having to explain myself yadda yadda.

The whole time, I was glued to Iphone until the babe said this:
Mommy, please stop your Iphone and play with me.
Mr E was staring at me as well. Whoospiedoodie.
Guilty as charged.

The new toga onesies arrived last night.
And Nyla suggested having a photoshoot.
She wanted to be a photographer cum art director.
Pretend play can really be exhausting but then realisation struck me.
The whole time she was clicking away, she was smiling.

Photographer pon nak pakai toga. Jangan marah...

The babe is very happy to finally have her mother all to herself.
As I am typing this, my daughter is having a shower getting ready for school.
We spent the morning chit chatting just like pre Iphone times and did a photo collage of last night's photoshoot too!
Here it is.

Everything happens for a reason huh.
As much as I was sorry about yesterday's event (shouldn't have happened at all!), I am thankful because it has given me a chance to bond with my daughter once again.
Don't get me wrong.
I'll still tweet, reply to emails and log on to facebook but I will try my very best not to be very obsessed.

  3. Hey Nura, I love reading your blog. I can truly understand how the iPhone can get in the way of our relationships with our family.
It takes my 3yo boy to say (in his pelat voice) "Mama, please keep iPhone. Mama look at me, look" for me to realise how I have been ignoring him. iPhone is a blessing and a curse... just gotta watch my usage around him now.
