Books = Best Presents

My favourite gifts to give and receive are books!

1. So easy to wrap. :p

2. Books don't need to be assembled. They can be 'used' immediately. So, not leceh/mafan for the recipient. :p

3. Books don't shrink or stretch after a period of time and they never never never go out of style. You can read the same book over and over again without ever getting sick and tired of it.
4. Books take you to places without even leaving home hence stimulating a child's imagination. :)

5.Come on people,really...need I say more? Let's start early and cultivate the lifelong love of reading in our children! Let's all raise readers mommies and daddies!

Because I believe that books make the most wonderful gifts, during Teacher's Day, Nyla wrote and illustrated 2 personalised and absolutely fabulous books for her teachers since everyone has known her in school as that little author.

Nyla took about 4 days to complete the stories and illustrations.
Anyway, great news! Nyla was recently featured in Term 3's Julia Gabriel Newsletter! Cool stuff Nyla!

Still at the topic of being featured, we would also like to express our many thanks to The Right Spin peeps for all the pitchin'! You peeps are really too kind. HUGS!:)

We were featured in The New Paper...
as well as Berita Harian.
If Nyla wrote and illustrated a book each for her teachers, her 2 other friends on the other hand, Janette and Joseph who are gifted in music, played the violin and performed a music piece for Geetha and Janet. Talk about being unique and creative! Nice one kiddies!

Nyla and her teachers. :)

The month of October is here and I can smell Children's Day!
I've been busy handling bulk orders of The Big Good Wolf and there were many enquiries in the email inbox so I thought why not do it here.

THIS IS IT

So this is it, peeps.
We've come to the final leg of the 'marathon'.
Quoting our master shifu (winks and thank you for being a wonderful consultant, Mr Invisible and Invincible :> )
-First run a marathon with your legs, then with your mind and in your final leg, with your heart.
Of course, our children will run longer, more arduous marathons in life.

We are just glad that we can help in this one.

Last Saturday's session was heavy duty I tell ya as compared to the previous 2 workshops we conducted.
We really salute the children for being alert during the entire time paying close attention to the strategies we imparted and giving their best shot and at the same time applyimg the strategies absorbed whenever tasks were assigned to them.
During the planning process, after much tweaking of the 'lesson plan', Jenn and I decided that we save the best part of the workshop to the last and indeed, the kids had a whale of a good time tackling the 15 questions during the last 30-45 minutes of the workshop.
WHAT A FINALE!

See la. Picture also blur! No thanks to my shaky hands! I was laughing so bad seeing these kids go all out to win "1 million dollars".

This 'Who wants to be a millionaire' game should actually be renamed "Who wants to eat cupcakes?" because the yummylicious cupakes were their reward. :)

A huge thank you to Simplycupcakes, our first workshop corporate sponsor.
Ayu, we are truly grateful to you for baking the "Good Luck (for PSLE)" cupcakes for our kids despite your hectic schedule. Thank you for squeezing some time for the kids babesy!

They look AND taste downright delicious by the way.

Besides mini cakes, Ayu also bakes maxi cakes. Hahaha!
As in mean, maxi cakes yo.

Wahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Wahhhhhhhhhhhh from me. WahhhhhhhhWahhhhhhWahhhhhhhhh from Nyla.

Waaahhhhhhhh then faints because too fabulous.
OMGTIDBICDL. (OhMyGodThisIsDamnBeautifulICanDieLor)
How can you actually eat this pretty cake?! It's like marring a piece of art!

Ayu, you have a magic wand or something because there are really no words that can ever do justice to the beauty of your cakes. Most gorgeous edible things I have ever seen. You are truly an inspiration.
So peeps, this woman is DA woman to look for if you would like to order a cake for a special occasion. Think Birthdays, Weddings, Mother's Day/Father's Day and whatever day you want to celebrate la ah.

Oooohhhhhhh! Yumsy!

Anyway, if you would like to ogle at more of this sweet lass' beautiful and delicious creations, please do visit her multiply site! Ayu can also be reached at simplycupcakes@gmail.com
c
Even the kids are having second thoughts eating the beautiful cupcakes.
Kids also can appreciate beauty ya!
Anyway Jenn and I have had the two of the busiest months ever and needless to say, we are knackered! However seeing kids' happyfaces and receiving wonderful testimonials and feedback from their parents....ALL WORTH IT!

Scare Tactics

It's a Friday and I thought what better way to make you people smile and laugh.

Well my brother is an avid YouTube viewer and he would usually share with me some funny videos on Facebook or through email. Probably his way of showing his love to his sister also la I guess ah...

-__-

What a prank right?!

I mean pranks are funny and all but no way to freaky pranks lor. If I were the guy, I'd probably just leave the kid and run out of the house man. I am so serious.

Anyway, noticed the guy pierced his chin? Well my kiddos think that people who do any form of body piercings are cool. So now tell me kids. This guy cool meh?!

Bring your luggage!

So, Jenn is finally back from her trip and raring to go while me....erm...let's just say that my application to take leave this weekend is still not approved by that char bo!
Babe ah, I still have a few houses to cover leh.
Give chance can? Aiya, this woman damn sweet. Bet she'll flash the green light. :)

This also means that I must work my %^$# off today and tomorrow and have minimal sleep while drinking many many mugs of coffee till my pee also smells like coffee. (I know this is disgusting but I am really not kidding. Jenn ah, your pee stinks also or not ah?)

Anyway, I haven't been very efficient in replying to the emails regarding this workshop because I've been busy eating all those kuihs and drinking all those gassy drinks at my relatives' houses. To you ladies and gentlemen whose emails have not been replied by me, not to worry please. I promise you will hear from me in a few hours' time.
As was requested by our parent-child duos during the previous workshops, Jenn and I are organizing the last workshop for the PSLE 2010 –
Unpacking the EL Paper II Luggage (Heavy focus on Comprehension and Cloze Passage)
As the title suggests, we are unpacking the techniques and skills necessary to wrestle the questions in English Paper II, specifically to chisel off the mental blocks to the ultimate villains of the English Language Paper II - Comprehension and Cloze passage.
As with the oral and writing workshops, we will share specific strategies to attack the examination questions, especially the 4 types of questions asked in the comprehension component
(i) Yooohooo Im here!
(ii) You think it's not there BUT it is!
(iii)All by myself
(iv) Author & Me.

We hear you parents! Comprehension and Cloze Passage doesn’t sound exactly like the most exciting lesson to your child. That’s why we have lined up activities and games to keep them (and you) hooked!

While discussing the programme for this upcoming workshop, we have decided to dedicate a portion of the workshop to highlighting the common but oh-so-preventable mistakes made in the other crucial sections of the EL Paper II so that your child will be especially aware of them and avoid these costly mistakes in the examination.
We promise we will leave no stones unturned in searching out the villains!

We would like to invite you to our final 2010 PSLE workshop.
If you know of any other P5 or P6 students, please help us extend our invitation to them as well!

As Paulo Coelho once wrote, “When you want something badly enough, the whole universe conspires to help you achieve it”.
We’re not sure if there is a Jedi out there to create the universal force, but we will conspire with you to help your child cross the PSLE hurdle. May the Makcik and Nyonya force be with you. :P

Details of workshop:

What: Unpacking The EL Paper II Luggage (Heavy focus on Comprehension
and Cloze Passage)

When: 25 September 2010

Time and Place: To Be Confirmed

Cost: Usual Price:$85

If you are keen, please do not hesitate to email at nuraesman@gmail.com so that we can secure/reserve your slots. :)
We believe in being transparent and as of now, 11 pairs are bringing their luggages to our workshop.
Just 4 more pairs and we hit the runway....Wooooottts!

Looking forward to hearing from you ladies and gentlemen and most importantly, our kiddos! :)

Lots of Love
Makcik Nura and Nyonya Jenn
